Kilyos Beach Turkey - Summer Destination

The extreme northern Istanbul suburb of Kilyos, 35 km (22 miles) north of the Galata Bridge, faces the deep, chilly waters of the Black Sea, and is a favorite getaway spot for sweating Istanbul on steamy summer afternoons.

Kilyos has hotels, guesthouses and restaurants open during the summer. The beach is open daily in warm weather from 8 am to 6 pm for a fee; it's very crowded on summer weekends, but not so crowded on weekdays.

NOTE! The beach may be subject to deadly riptides and undertow, so educate yourself about what to do in case of undetow (swim parallel to the shore to escape the current, then swim toward the shore), swim in protected areas or where there are lifeguards, and don't swim alone.

Rozenburg is a small port town and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. After the second World War, the port of Rozenburg grew almost explosively along the Nieuwe Maas river towards the sea. To handle the burgeoning sea traffic, a canal was built in the late 1960s running parallel to the already present Nieuwe Waterweg canal.

The Caland canal - named after a Dutch civil engineer who was responsible for building of the Nieuwe Waterweg - served as an access for deep draft vessels, in particular bulk carriers and tankers of increasing dimensions that called at the Europoort docks. The narrow waterway, however, became increasingly difficult to navigate in strong winds, particularly around the Calandbrug bridge, as the ships became larger.

In the mid-1980s architect Martin Strujis and artist Frans de Wit were called upon for the task of creating an effective yet aesthetically pleasing wind barrier. The Rozenburg Windwall was the result of their effort.

The Tam Coc is a tourist attraction along the Ngo Dong river, beginning at the village of Van Lam and proceeding through a scenic landscape dominated by rice fields and karst towers. The route includes floating through three natural caves (Hang Ca, Hang Hai, and Hang Ba), the largest of which is 125m long with its ceiling about 2m high above the water. The boats are typically rowed by one or two local women who also sell embroidered goods.

This amazing place is located in Spain near the small town of Llanes, in the north of the country. Its main feature is that it is surrounded on all sides by hills covered with scrub and it has no exit to the sea.

The Playa de Gulpiyuri is located in about 300 feet from the Bay of Biscay, in the Atlantic Ocean. Ocean water seeps through the huge amount of underwater labyrinth of caves. Therefore, this beach is also sensitive to the ebb and flow. While lying on the beach, you wouldn’t be able to see the beautiful horizon of the ocean, but be sure that you bathe in salt water. 10 more images after the break...
